MEMBERSHIP
At Friday night's Impact Awards dinner, NBMBAA® President and CEO, Jesse Tyson presented the H. Naylor Fitzhugh Award, which is awarded in recognition of exceptional contributions toward self-improvement and a demonstrated involvement in various business, educational and professional organizations within the African-American community.

The 2016 H. Naylor Fitzhugh Award recipient is Kenneth Louis Coleman. Tyler pointed out that Coleman truly embodies the characteristics recognized by this award, which recognizes achievements of Black MBAs who do an excellent job in their companies, but who also remember how they got there and is making his or her career relevant to the Black experience.

NBMBAA® Board Member and Vice President Global Inclusion and Staffing, for General Mills, Inc., Kenneth Allen Charles presented the Helping Hands Award, which is awarded by the President & CEO to an individual or organization that has truly exceeded expectations in their service to the NBMBAA.

The 2016 Helping Hands Award winner is Dorothy "Dee"Williams.

The Silver Torch Award recognizes a corporation that demonstrates its commitment to the NBMBAA® through partnership activities that increase the NBMBAA’s value and effectiveness and provides equal opportunities for qualified African American professionals within its organization, by hiring, training, retaining and advancing African American talent.

NBMBAA Board Member and Senior Director, Corporate Affairs for Georgia Pacific, Charmaine Ward presented the 2016 Silver Torch Award to Delta Air Lines.

EDUCATION
A new program and new award were introduced at the Friday Impact Awards dinner, with University of Florida recognized as the first recipient of the Academic Partner Award.

"This is the beginning of the National Black MBA Association’s launch of our Collegiate Partnership program, said Vice President for Strategic Program Initiatives for the National Black MBA Association, Troy Evans.

On October 13 - 14, teams of undergraduate students majoring in business and science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) gathered together for a new event at the 2016 National Black MBA Association® National Conference - the 2016 NBMBAA® Hackathon Competition. Their challenge? To provide technology solutions to a business issue and to share ideas.

The winners announced at the NBMBAA® Impact Awards were:

1st place - North Carolina A&T State University
2nd place - Southern University at New Orleans
3rd place - Claflin University

With only five minutes to make their pitches, Kenneth White Jr. with KleanCollar, Tiffany Smith with Tiltas and Camille Newman with Pop-Up Plus, wowed the audience with their creative, out-of-the-box thinking to address specific needs in different arenas.

The winner, announced at the NBMBAA® Impact Awards Friday night was Camille Newman.
