At Friday night's Impact Awards dinner, NBMBAA® President and CEO, Jesse Tyson presented the H. Naylor Fitzhugh Award, which is awarded in recognition of exceptional contributions toward self-improvement and a demonstrated involvement in various business, educational and professional organizations within the African-American community.

The 2016 H. Naylor Fitzhugh Award recipient is Kenneth Louis Coleman. Tyler pointed out that Coleman truly embodies the characteristics recognized by this award, which recognizes achievements of Black MBAs who do an excellent job in their companies, but who also remember how they got there and is making his or her career relevant to the Black experience.

Born to working class parents in Centralia, Illinois who strongly emphasized education, he attended The Ohio State University where his student job as a key punch and computer operator led to an interest in computers which mushroomed over time into a significant career in technology and led to him becoming a key player in Silicon Valley.

His experiences as an officer in the United States Air Force led to an early commitment to promoting opportunities for women and people of color. After leaving the Air Force, he worked at Hewlett-Packard, Activision and Silicon Graphics.

Even after "retiring" several years ago, Coleman has been a serial entrepreneur - successfully raising venture capital, selling and investing in tech firms and serving as a Special Advisor to two venture capital firms.

Tyson added, "As busy as Coleman is, he never forgets to teach back. On our recent Leaders of Tomorrow Tech Tour to Silicon Valley, Ken graciously spent an evening with our young people on Stanford's campus, sharing with them, some of the wisdom he has accumulated over his multi-faceted and distinguished career."
