SCAPA News and Events
Over 450 people are registered to attend next week’s Winter Conference at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Columbia, SC. We have a full agenda with over 21 technical presentations.
 
 
   
SCAPA and SCDOT hosted a successful 2016 Partners in Quality (PIQ) program. This was the fourth year of PIQ, which began in 2013. The PIQ program is dedicated to quality asphalt paving and is held in each of the seven SCDOT districts across the state. Both SCAPA contractors and SCDOT officials attended the meetings.
 
On Dec. 4, 2015, President Obama signed into law the first long-term highway bill with robust funding since 1998, the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation (FAST) Act of 2015, to authorize funds for Federal-aid highways and highway safety programs. The five-year, $305 billion legislation -- $281 billion allocated to highway and road projects -- provides the needed certainty to plan for long-term projects that rebuild America's highways, roads, and bridges.

This month SCAPA participated in the 2016 SC Aviation Association Annual Conference at the Wild Dunes Resort in Isle of Palms, SC.
 
 
   
In April, SCAPA will host a PaveXpress workshop in Columbia, SC. This workshop will cover the free, web-based tool from front to back and how it can be used in your organization.
 
SCAPA’s Executive Director was among 850 attendees at the National Asphalt Pavement Association’s Annual Meeting on February 7-10, 2016. The conference was held at the La Quinta Resort in La Quinta, California. This year’s theme was "Driving Competitive Advantages: Growth, Productivity, Success."
 
Government Affairs
On Wednesday, February 17th, the SC Senate began debating H. 3569, the road funding bill. The Senate is debating an amendment proffered by Senator Joel Lourie (D-Richland) and Senator Ray Cleary (R-Georgetown).

The National Asphalt Pavement Association (NAPA) has recently released two free publications highlighting Reclaimed Asphalt Pavements (RAP) and Recycled Asphalt Shingles (RAS) and providing guidance on how to effectively utilize both.
 
SCAPA staff and personnel from SCDOT's Office of Materials and Research are currently developing a best practices guide on Full Depth Patching.
