Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) announced on April 15 that vehicle production from May 10 to June 3 will remain at half of normal production capacity. Toyota will decide on whether to increase output after assessing the situation of its suppliers and other related companies. The slowdown represents the loss of 120,000 vehicles to the sales market.

Vincentric, an auto-industry data analysis firm based in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, released its 6th annual Best Fleet Value in America awards on April 8. Toyota and General Motors topped the list in terms of value to fleet purchasers. Toyota earned 10 awards, while General Motors received nine. Ford received five awards.

Overall fleet car maintenance costs remained flat in 2010 compared to 2009, according to a study by GE Capital Fleet Services. Due to an increase in vehicle replacement in 2010, according to the company’s findings, maintenance costs balanced out.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) reported regular-grade gasoline retail prices, which averaged $2.76 per gallon last summer, are projected to increase to $3.86 per gallon during the 2011 driving season. According to a report released on April 12, the EIA expects the monthly average gasoline price to peak at about $3.91 per gallon by mid-summer.

A new survey released by auditing and consulting firm Deloitte LLP shows that 78 percent of consumers in the United States would consider purchasing an electric vehicle (EV) when fuel prices reach $5.00 per gallon.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has released the 16th annual U.S. greenhouse gas inventory. The final report shows overall emissions during 2009 decreased by 6.1 percent from the previous year. This downward trend was attributed to a decrease in fuel and electricity consumption across all U.S. economic sectors.

Canada Post announced on April 18 it has added the first all-electric step vans in Canada to its fleet, a move following a recent acquisition of fully electric small delivery vehicles. The vehicles were built by Navistar Inc., an American manufacturer of medium and heavy trucks.
