Calgary Transit Introduces Green Fleet

Effective May 2011, Calgary Transit will be embarking on a new challenge to become "greener," when it will be introducing hybrid shuttle buses to its fleet.  Upon the next shipment of shuttle buses, included will be five hybrids, offering a variety of fuel savings.

Fleet Manager Russell Davies has highlighted that he is keen to see the buses on the road, and they will be conducting a direct comparison between new vehicles and hybrids on similar routes in order to get a better idea with regards to efficiency.

It is his hope that if the costs of the hybrid shuttle buses, which run at approximately $40,000 more than the standard shuttle bus, can be recovered through fuel savings within the next few years, eventually the entire shuttle bus fleet will switch over to hybrids.
