The Texas Transportation Commission announced at its regular meeting on Thursday, August 25th, that they collectively elected John Barton, P.E., who has served for more than a quarter of a century in various positions with TxDOT, as the interim executive director of the Texas Department of Transportation. Mr. Amadeo Saenz, Jr., P.E., the current executive director, will be retiring at the end of August.

The Ron Flanagan Scholarship and Education Auction is held each year at the annual meeting. It will take place on Thursday night, Sept. 22, 2011 at the Moody Gardens Resort in Galveston, Texas. Last year the auction brought in approximately $65,000 which benefited 10 civil engineering students. The committee would like to produce more manuals, CDs and DVDs for training and education purposes.

It’s time again for the Annual Texas Asphalt Pavement Association Meeting and Golf Tournament. This year’s meeting and tournament will be held in Galveston, Texas at the Moody Gardens Hotel, Spa & Convention Center. As we make plans for the meeting we are seeking sponsors to help fund the beverage carts at this year’s golf tournament on Wednesday, Sept. 21st. These same sponsorships will also help fund the hospitality suite managed by the Associate Member Advisory Committee and the Major Associate Committee. Sponsorships are available for $300.
