The 36th Annual TxAPA Annual Meeting was held last week at the Westin La Cantera Resort in San Antonio, Texas. As always, the meeting was extremely informative, and the attendance this year was one of the largest ever. The Technical Sessions were some of the best I have seen, not only at this conference, but at any conference I have attended during my transportation career.

This year marked the 13th year of our awards program. Since its inception, approximately 400 projects have been nominated. There were 34 nominations in seven categories from 17 TxDOT districts representing 33 contractors, producers and suppliers for this prestigious award.

The Hot Mix Asphalt Center and the Texas Department of Transportation are initiating a program to recognize Quality Control/Quality Assurance Technicians for their efforts to achieve excellence in the performance of their assigned duties.

We are once again approaching the dates for the Hot Mix Asphalt Center proficiency programs. Beginning with this year, the soils proficiencies will have the same dates and deadlines as the hot mix proficiency program. If your certified technicians hold both soils and hot mix certifications, they will be required to perform both these tests.
