NCAT and NAPA are hosting a webinar, "High RAP Asphalt Pavements: The Latest Information from Research that You Can Use Today," on Thursday, June 7, at 2 p.m. EST. 

The webinar will present findings and recommendations regarding high RAP content mixes resulting from research on the NCAT Test Track. In the last two cycles of the Test Track, mixes with 45 percent and 50 percent RAP were evaluated. NCAT director Randy West will discuss the selection of the virgin binder for high RAP mixes, differences between lab and field performance, the benefits of combining WMA and RAP and opportunities for using high RAP content mixes as a high modulus layer in economic structural designs. The webinar is free for NAPA members.

WHAT'S GOING ON
In late April and early May TXAPA presented four seminars that were intended for decision makers, roadway designers and pavement designers such as Directors of Public Works, Roadway Supervisors, City Engineers, County Engineers, Consulting Engineers, etc. interested in learning how asphalt pavements can be sustainable while at the same time economical. As an extension of TXAPA’s regular programs such as partners in quality meetings, brown bag lunches, etc. the seminars were a success.

IN THE WORKS
The Associate Member Advisory Committee is currently developing a plan that will provide trade show booth opportunities at TXAPA’s 2012 Annual Meeting at the Horseshoe Bay Resort. On Friday, April 13th TXAPA Executive Vice President Harold Mullen, Associate Member Advisory Committee Chair Wayne Ramert and TXAPA Director of Business Relations David Kopp met with Horseshoe Bay Resort staff to start the planning for trade show opportunities at the Annual Meeting.

The TXAPA Marketing Committee is taking the lead on the production of a 50th-Anniversary Texas Asphalt Pavement Association book. TXAPA is contracting with Emily Adams, TXAPA’s creative consultant and the owner of AltaCreative, to develop and produce the book in a coffee table format. The book will contain the history of TXAPA since 1962. Gary Corley’s efforts to date for the Texas Asphalt magazine will be the backbone of the book. To help support the history of the association, pictures are intended to be a significant portion of the book.

From the National Asphalt Pavement Association (NAPA) this month is this article entitled "Online Calculator Identifies CO2 Credits for Asphalt Operations." With the advent of Life Cycle Analysis calculations this is a very timely topic. Note the introductory webinar hosted by NAPA has already taken place, but the calculator is still an extremely helpful tool.

From the Asphalt Pavement Association (APA) this month is an article entitled "APA Announces 2011 Perpetual Pavement Award Winners." This is a very timely article since the TxDOT/TXAPA Pavement Awards Committee is considering developing a similar Perpetual Pavement Award in Texas for the TXAPA Award’s Program. For the past 15 years TXAPA has accepted nominations for projects completed in the previous year in order to select award-winning projects in eight categories. This highly successful TXAPA program has seen more than 440 nominations in the past 15 years.

Don't miss the most important meeting of the summer, July 16-18 at The Drake Hotel on Chicago's Magnificent Mile. The National Asphalt Pavement Association meets to highlight "Magnificent Opportunities for Asphalt: Overcoming Challenges, Delivering Solutions." Plenary sessions will discuss the current legislative and regulatory situation in Washington, as well as highlight a unique paving project on Chicago's Magnificent Mile which proves you can build great roads that are cheaper, greener and quicker to construct. Guests are welcome in the committee meetings where the industry's efforts on all fronts are formed and discussed. There are also fun networking events, including a Cubs/Diamond ballgame on Sunday, July 15.
