MIDYEAR AT THE DRAKE

Don't miss the most important meeting of the summer, July 16-18 at The Drake Hotel on Chicago's Magnificent Mile. The National Asphalt Pavement Association meets to highlight "Magnificent Opportunities for Asphalt: Overcoming Challenges, Delivering Solutions." Plenary sessions will discuss the current legislative and regulatory situation in Washington, as well as highlight a unique paving project on Chicago's Magnificent Mile which proves you can build great roads that are cheaper, greener and quicker to construct. Guests are welcome in the committee meetings where the industry's efforts on all fronts are formed and discussed. There are also fun networking events, including a Cubs/Diamond ballgame on Sunday, July 15.

Plenary Sessions
12:30 p.m., Monday, July 16
In the opening session, NAPA Chairman Kurt Bechthold will offer a state of the industry report outlining NAPA's accomplishments during the first half of 2012 and the association's goals for going forward. Congressman Reid Ribble will provide an insider's update from Capitol Hill and Janet Kavinoky, head of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's efforts to support maintaining, modernizing and expanding transportation and infrastructure, will discuss the state of highway funding legislation.

7:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 17
This session will focus on the Chicago Department of Transportation's Magnificent Green Mile project, which repaved North Michigan Avenue last year with an innovative stone-matrix asphalt incorporating reclaimed asphalt pavement, recycled asphalt shingles and ground tire rubber. Members of the mayor's transportation team and industry contractors will outline the project. The Magnificent Green Mile is located just outside the meeting venue, giving attendees a chance to learn about the project and then see the handiwork for themselves.
