Paving the Way
SCAPA News and Events

Thank you to all who attended the 2022 SCAPA Winter Conference & Trade Show. We had a wonderful turnout with over 500 attendees at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center. The conference kicked off with a Trade Show Reception, featuring large equipment displays, 18 exhibitors, and 19 sponsors. And congratulations to all of the SCAPA Quality Pavement Award winners!

Every year, the SCAPA Quality Pavement Awards program recognizes asphalt pavements with exemplary quality. Winning projects are constructed in South Carolina with minimal traffic delays and congestion. Projects are evaluated by lab and field quality data, as well as overall appearance, smoothness of ride, texture, and joint construction. This year there are three SCAPA Quality Pavement Award-winning projects, which were recognized during the SCAPA Winter Conference & Trade Show.

We want to thank and recognize our SCAPA Members who signed up to sponsor and/or exhibit at the 2022 SCAPA Winter Conference & Trade Show. Your presence at the show means so much to SCAPA, and we appreciate your continued support!

Stone matrix asphalt (SMA) is a hot mix asphalt (HMA) consisting of a coarse aggregate skeleton and a high binder content. SMA was developed in Germany during the mid-1960s and it has been used in Europe for more than 40 years to provide better rutting resistance and to resist studied tire wear. Because of the superior performance of SMA mixture comprising its high rut resistance, high skid resistance, high durability, improved resistance to reflective cracking, better drainage condition and reduced noise pollution. SMA has been widely adopted in Europe, Australia, USA, Canada, Japan and many other countries worldwide, as a surface course for heavily trafficked roads.
