ACEC-SC and the SC Society of Professional Engineers (SCSPE) hosted its annual meeting this month in Columbia. SCAPA Executive Director, Jayson Jordan, PE, kicked off the program and delivered an annual update for SCSPE, a group that Jordan currently serves as state president. ACEC-SC chair, Matt Gehman, TranSystems, delivered the ACEC-SC annual update at the meeting. To wrap up the morning portion of the program, SC DHEC's Director of Environmental Affairs, Myra Reece, discussed the current affairs of the agency. In addition, Reece mentioned an issue in Michigan where an asphalt plant was permitted by the state department of environment, but the EPA stepped in and denied the permit.

In addition, Jordan also participated in ACEC-SC's event for Governor Henry McMaster this past month. Governor McMaster has called on the general assembly to use ARPA funds to accelerate projects to address capacity and growth in the state. McMaster recently joined several other governors in a letter to the White House regarding flexibility of the IIJA funds. SCAPA will continue to monitor that situation.
