ASCO's national public awareness campaign, Optometry Gives Me Life (OGML), won a Silver award given by the American Advertising Federation (AAF) Greater Rochester in February. The AAF Greater Rochester is an affiliate of the American Advertising Federation. The campaign will go on to compete at the district level, which includes all the major markets in the Northeast.
 
The OCEF Program Planning Group of the Academic Affairs Committee (AAFC), co-chaired by Dr. Amy Roan Moy (NECO) and Dr. Valerie Kattouf (ICO), has been hard at work programming the second installment of the two-part series “Engaging Today’s Student.” This OCEF will focus on ‘the clinic’ setting; the fall 2022 OCEF focused on the classroom and can be viewed here. A tentative date of Friday, June 2, 2023 at 12:30 ET has been set.
 
In 2022, ASCO and Johnson & Johnson Vision began a unique partnership with an unprecedented sponsorship to address the need for greater diversity in optometry.
 
U.S. News and World Report released their Top 100 Best Jobs of 2023 and included the profession of optometry amongst those showcased.

That was the message from Terrell Strayhorn, PhD, to faculty and staff at Salus University Development Day on January 6th.
 
Janet L. Leasher, OD, MPH, FAAO, FNAP received the International Optometrist of the Year 2022 prize from the Polytechnical University of Catalonia (UPC), Faculty of Optometry and Optics in Terrassa, Spain (FOOT) in December 2022.
 
The Doctor of Optometry Program for International Students (DOPIS) welcomed three internationally trained students to the inaugural cohort in the summer of 2022.
 
At Midwestern University’s Arizona College of Optometry (AZCOPT), students spend their third and fourth years on the clinical side of campus at the Midwestern University Eye Institute. Under the guidance and supervision of AZCOPT faculty, students gain critical, hands-on experience providing advanced care to patients within the community.
 
Southern College of Optometry (SCO) recently finished construction on its new Optometric Surgical Service Area. This area will provide care for minor surgical lid procedures and is now home to all anterior segment ophthalmic lasers for clinical instruction and patient care. 
 
Dr. Teresa Puthussery's work in the area of retinal cell transplants was featured in the Fall 2022 edition of the Berkeley Optometry Magazine.
 
Midwestern University’s College of Graduate Studies is now offering a stand-alone Post-Graduate Certificate Program in Precision Medicine for currently-practicing clinicians and professionals in the biological sciences.
