The next Concrete Innovations session, Number 29: Resilient Construction Initiatives, is scheduled for Wednesday, May 14, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Eastern time. The session will feature a panel discussion on the imperative for building resilience and discuss initiatives and frameworks to support resilient construction.

 

The Oklahoma Ready Mixed Concrete Association (ORMCA) hosted its 2025 Mixer Driver Championship earlier this spring, drawing a record 39 drivers from across the state who represented 15 producer companies. Held indoors with over 200 attendees, the competition consisted of three primary elements: a written exam, pre-trip inspection and driving course, each designed to showcase safety awareness, operational knowledge and hands-on driving precision. The high turnout and enthusiastic support from companies, families and industry peers made for a high-energy and impactful day, said ORMCA Executive Director Melissa Wilkerson.

 

 

NRMCA’s Patrick Matsche recently attended a meeting of the Washington Aggregates & Concrete Association (WACA) and the Washington chapter of the American Concrete Institute; the dinner meeting included a number of NRMCA members who heard from Dr. Jason Weiss of Oregon State University who discussed currently available and emerging cement technologies along with their effect on the ready mixed concrete industry. The Spring 2025 newsletter of the National Concrete Consortium (NC2) has the following items: 

• Maturity Method for Early Opening of Concrete Pavements - The Spring 2025 NC² Moving Advancements into Practice (MAP) Brief from the NC² Resource Library explains how the maturity method can be used to facilitate the early opening of concrete pavements. In particular, the document focuses on the Nurse-Saul maturity method and outlines a general procedure for determining pavement opening time.

NRMCA Senior Director, Local Paving, Greg Halsted recently assisted Northwest Cement Council (NCC) Executive Director Diane Warner in a NCC exhibit booth (seen here, with Halsted and Warner) at both the Washington and Oregon chapters of the American Public Works Association spring conferences held April 23 and 24 in Tacoma, WA, and April 29 through May 2 in Salem, OR. Halsted said they attracted over 800 public works personnel and 170 exhibitors, record attendance for both events.
