The American Coal Ash Association (ACAA) has released the results of its annual Coal Combustion Products (CCP) Production and Use Survey representing data for 2024. Production of new CCP declined from 66.7 million tons in 2023 to 63.6 million tons in 2024. The report indicates that 72 percent of the ash produced in 2024 was beneficially used in concrete and concrete products, up from 69 percent the prior year and marking the 10th consecutive year that more than half of the ash produced was used rather than disposed.

NRMCA Senior Director, Building Innovations, Donn Thompson recently spent three days in St. Louis supporting the Insulated Concrete Forms promotional efforts of the Concrete Council, which focuses on promoting concrete in eastern Missouri and much of Illinois. Thompson's program (seen here, with him at left) included several Lunch and Learn presentations to nearly 50 people on 911 emergency response, school storm shelters and early childhood center projects, each of which arose from prior programs and presentations by the Council. This year for the first time, the total number of contact hours exceeded 5,000, further evidence of the effectiveness that these promotional efforts are being seen in call backs and new projects that utilize concrete in their construction.
Last week, NRMCA Senior Director, Building Innovations, Frank Mruk (pictured here at upper left) attended the MaCAPA December meeting followed by a year-end reception celebrating a successful year of collaboration across Massachusetts. Current MaCAPA leadership includes President Peter Joy of Cape Cod Ready Mix, Treasurer Jason Ouellette of Chicopee Concrete Service Inc. and Executive Director Craig Dauphinais (pictured, lower right). Last week, NRMCA Senior Director, Energy Codes and Standards, Darryl Dixon participated in a conference organized by ASHRAE along with the Oak Ridge National Laboratory titled The Buildings XVI Conference which gathered product manufacturers, research organizations, academia, builders, designers, architects and consultants to discuss their achievements, interest and awareness of buildings issues, and to provide solutions and insight into some of our major building envelope problems.
