NRMCA's Thompson Discusses Wide Range of Promotion Topics at Midwest Concrete Council Meeting

NRMCA Senior Director, Building Innovations, Donn Thompson recently spent three days in St. Louis supporting the Insulated Concrete Forms promotional efforts of the Concrete Council, which focuses on promoting concrete in eastern Missouri and much of Illinois. Thompson's program (seen here, with him at left) included several Lunch and Learn presentations to nearly 50 people on 911 emergency response, school storm shelters and early childhood center projects, each of which arose from prior programs and presentations by the Council. This year for the first time, the total number of contact hours exceeded 5,000, further evidence of the effectiveness that these promotional efforts are being seen in call backs and new projects that utilize concrete in their construction.

While in St. Louis, Thompson also participated in the Council's year-end Board Meeting, two extended work sessions to exchange ideas about new promotional activities going forward and what role NRMCA could play in supporting them. Some new initiatives could include greater cooperation with the state ACI chapter, a new concrete inspection seminar, the initial industry/APWA roundtable which has already proven to be very useful and informative, and the first Academic Council meeting that will provide a forum for the exchange of needs, deficits and opportunities to help students prepare for careers in concrete design and construction. Another new initiative will include the utilization of engagement metrics to better understand who is interacting with each of the Council's promotional efforts and the assignment of engagement scores to prioritize future outreach efforts.
