Members of the 9-1-1 community are invited to submit nominations for the NG9-1-1 Interoperability Oversight Commission (Commission), also known as the NIOC. This body provides independent oversight of the PSAP Credentialing Agency (PCA) and the Forest Guide, two functional elements required to be operated centrally for NG9-1-1 to work according to prevailing standards. These requirements come from specifications developed under NENA’s standards NENA Development Group (NDG) and the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). The Commission seeks individuals representing:
The Commission also seeks non-voting liaisons representing:
Members of the 9-1-1 community are invited to nominate a qualifying individual to serve on this Commission. Please send all nominations to admin@ng911ioc.org by February 29, 2024. Document Announcements
The NENA Spoofing Mitigation Information Document describes the application of the Signature-based Handling of Asserted Information Using toKENs (SHAKEN) caller identity spoofing mitigation framework and SIP Resource-Priority Header and Priority header signing/verification procedures to 9 1 1 calls and emergency callbacks in an end-state Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG9-1-1) (i.e., all-Internet Protocol [IP]) environment as well as caller identity spoofing mitigation mechanisms applicable to an all-Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) and mixed TDM/IP environment, with a focus on associated operational impacts and considerations. This Information Document also describes location spoofing mitigation in an end-state NG9-1-1 environment. Washington Briefing
A coalition of nine national organizations is calling on Congress to act swiftly to fund critically needed upgrades to America's local 9-1-1 emergency response systems. NENA: The 9-1-1 Association and groups representing state and local governments, industry, and disabled persons issued the call to action to all Senate and House leaders as well as the Chairs and Ranking Members of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, and the House Committee on Energy and Commerce. In the letter, the groups reiterated their strong support for funding essential Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG9-1-1) upgrades by allocating a portion of the proceeds from federal spectrum auctions. The call for volunteers is open through March 1, 2024. Click here to apply. For questions, please reach out to Co-Chairs Jonathan Jones or Brad Gass. Multiple standards contribute to the i3-centric architecture for NG9-1-1, including but not limited to the NENA i3 Standard itself, the NENA EIDO and EIDO conveyance standards, NENA GIS Data Model, the upcoming NG PSAP/ECC standard, and others. The versioning scheme will bundle specific vintages of each NG9-1-1 technology standard into an easy-to-understand version on a set schedule. These versions will help the NG9-1-1 market in providing consistency for which versions of which standards are included in an up-to-date deployment of the entire suite of standards, help with future plans for updates/upgrades, and simplify backwards compatibility support decisions. The purpose of this document is to establish a "version" series for the i3-centric standards-based NG9-1-1 architecture. This will establish a discrete collection of i3-centric standards of a specific version that are updated with a specific frequency, to be determined by the workgroup. The process for selecting standards will also be determined by the work group. The intent is to mimic, in part, 3GPP’s version release schedule for cellular standards. This simplifies procurement and implementation of complete NG9-1-1 systems and provides better standardization in implementation of the standards. The document will include:
