NENA Seeks Volunteers for Interface Specification Development Working Group

Multiple standards contribute to the i3-centric architecture for NG9-1-1, including but not limited to the NENA i3 Standard itself, the NENA EIDO and EIDO conveyance standards, NENA GIS Data Model, the upcoming NG PSAP/ECC standard, and others. The versioning scheme will bundle specific vintages of each NG9-1-1 technology standard into an easy-to-understand version on a set schedule. These versions will help the NG9-1-1 market in providing consistency for which versions of which standards are included in an up-to-date deployment of the entire suite of standards, help with future plans for updates/upgrades, and simplify backwards compatibility support decisions.

The purpose of this document is to establish a "version" series for the i3-centric standards-based NG9-1-1 architecture. This will establish a discrete collection of i3-centric standards of a specific version that are updated with a specific frequency, to be determined by the workgroup. The process for selecting standards will also be determined by the work group. The intent is to mimic, in part, 3GPP’s version release schedule for cellular standards. This simplifies procurement and implementation of complete NG9-1-1 systems and provides better standardization in implementation of the standards.

The document will include:

  • A description of the i3 Series Release versioning mechanism
  • Requirements for a specification being accepted into a given release
  • Review criteria for specifications considered for a release
  • Schedule for each version release
  • Expectations or requirements for backwards compatibility for previous versions

Meeting times may vary.

NENA seeks volunteers from the User, Producer, and General Interest categories to join this group.
