Trucks carrying five sections of the first Airbus A320 passenger jetliner to be assembled  in Alabama left the APM Terminals Mobile terminal in a convoy on June 21 for the three-mile final leg of their journey to the new $600 million Brookley Aeroplex. Airbus projects output at the Brookley facility at between 40-50 aircraft annually within three years.

Approximately 224.8 million metric tons of cargo moved through the Brazilian port system during first quarter 2015, an increase from year ago of 2.5 percent, according to the national waterways agency, Agência Nacional de Transportes Aquaviários (ANTAQ). Dry bulks accounted for 134.9 million tons ( 2.9 percent), liquid bulks for 54.6 million tons ( 0.2 percent), and general cargo for 35.3 million tons ( 4.4 percent).

Impacts of the Channel Deepening on the Columbia River, a study co-sponsored by the Pacific Northwest Waterways Association (PNWA) and the Port of Portland shows that more than $1.08 billion in public and private investments have been made since the deepening was completed in 2010. Proposed developments could mean an additional $5.15 billion in investments. A newly-signed Chief of Engineers Report from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers clears the way for Port Everglades to begin the next phase of deepening and widening its channels. It also allows the project to be included in federal legislation expected in 2016 that will authorize similar water and navigation-related projects.  Phase Two of the $12.8 million maintenance dredging at the Port of Redwood City's Redwood Creek channel by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' contractors is underway. Completion of Phase Three this winter will restore the channel’s authorized depth of 30 feet for the first time since December 2009.

The Canadian government will contribute $16.3 million toward the construction of a multipurpose terminal at the Port of Trois-Rivières. The port authority will be responsible for the balance of the cost, an estimated $16.83 billion, while the private sector is expected to spend nearly $15 million for new equipment at the terminal.

The Port of Oakland is testing sensors that measure how long harbor truckers wait to enter its marine terminals – information that would enable drivers to avoid peak periods and shippers to collect cargo when terminals are uncrowded. If the test proves successful, the technology may be deployed throughout the port.

The Port of Portland Commission on June 25 adopted the fiscal year 2015-2016 budget, which forecasts moderate revenue increase in all business lines, supports capital improvements for facilities serving customers, and maintains existing infrastructure. Total port operating revenues and operating expenditures are budgeted at $295 million and $190 million, compared to the FY 2015 adopted budget of $261 million and $181 million.
