JAXPORT Board Elects Officers for 2015-16

The board of directors of the Jacksonville Port Authority (JAXPORT) unanimously selected a new slate of officers during its regular meeting on June 22. Each will serve each serve a one-year term starting July 1, 2015. They include:

Chairman: Dr. John Allen Newman

Vice Chairman: Robert F. Spohrer

Treasurer: James P. Citrano

Secretary: Ed Fleming

Dr. Newman is senior pastor of The Sanctuary at Mt. Calvary. Mr. Spohrer is president of Spohrer & Dodd. Mr. Citrano is retired managing director of CBRE Group's Jacksonville office. Ed Fleming is retired CEO/president of Atlantic Marine Holding Co, LLC.

"This is an incredibly important time for our region and our citizens, as JAXPORT is on the verge of making an even bigger impact on employment and private sector opportunity," said Dr. Newman. "I am honored to lead this dedicated board and provide guidance to staff as we both advance and complete several large growth projects that will so positively impact Northeast Florida's economy and vitality."

Other members of the 2015-2016 port authority board include immediate past chairman John Falconetti, president, The Drummond Press Inc.; Joe York, president, AT&T Florida, Puerto Rico & U.S. Virgin Islands; and former Ambassador Nancy Soderberg, president and CEO, Soderberg Solutions.

Ambassador Soderberg will continue as JAXPORT’s liaison with the North Florida Transportation Planning Organization for the upcoming year. The North Florida TPO is the independent regional transportation planning agency for Clay, Duval, Nassau and St. Johns counties.

Four of the seven board members are appointed by the mayor of Jacksonville and three by the governor of Florida.

Goldberg to Manage Industrial Business Development and Real Estate Marketing For the Port of Portland (OR)
 
Don Goldberg is joining the Port of Portland as general manager of business development. He will manage industrial business development and real estate marketing.

Mr. Goldberg comes to the port with more than two decades of experience in the commercial real estate and development industry. During the last seven years, he has been senior project manager in the Portland office of the Trust for Public Land, a national non-profit organization focused on acquisition and development of land for parks, open space and conservation.

As a community leader, Mr. Goldberg served on the port’s Marine Blue Ribbon Committee, assisting with creating a growth strategy for the marine business, as well as on the board of the Intertwine Alliance and on other various committees. He is a trained chef, certified executive coach, has traveled to more than 75 countries, is learning to sail and has a variety of other interests.

"Don’s ability to work well with all stakeholders, and his belief in taking a holistic and balanced approach to development, will serve us well into the future as we tackle complex issues in a way that is in alignment with the community," said Keith Leavitt, port chief commercial officer.

Seattle: Port Hires David McFadden as Managing Director Economic Development Division 

David McFadden has been named managing director of the economic development division of the Port of Seattle, effective July 21. His responsibilities will include recruiting and retaining businesses especially in aviation, manufacturing and maritime sectors. They also will include driving economic development activities to maximize opportunities available to the port while making Seattle a gateway for international commerce. 

"David brings more than 20 years of experience in economic development and business growth to this organization," said Port CEO Ted J. Fick. "His results-oriented background makes him uniquely qualified to fill this new role at the Port of Seattle, where we aim to bring more family-wage jobs to the region and state of Washington."

As president and CEO of the Yakima County Development Association since 1997, Mr. McFadden has been responsible for business and industry retention and expansion, along with new business recruitment. Companies that received support from the association have invested more than $400 million in new facilities and created more than 2,000 new jobs since 2002.

McFadden holds an MA in political science and a BS with honors in social assessment and policy, both from Western Washington University. He is also an Economic Development Finance Professional and a Certified Economic Developer.
