SA Recycling is working with CML Metals Corp. to send iron ore from mines in Utah, California, Arizona and Nevada to meet the growing demand of Asian steel makers for raw materials. The iron ore exports, which started up this spring, are the first in 40 years from Long Beach.

The Alabama State Port Authority's Pier B North Terminal in Mobile was the setting for the christening April 10 of a brand new Grieg Star cargo ship. Built at the Hyundai Mipo yard in Ulsan, South Korea, and delivered on January 21, Star Lindesnes is the third in Grieg Star's L Class, a new generation of "open hatch" general cargo ships.

Seattle's 2013 cruise season got underway May 1 with the docking of Crystal Cruise's Symphony at Bell Street Pier Cruise Terminal. Scheduled this season are 188 cruise ship calls that the port predicts will bring an estimated 852,000 revenue passengers through its facilities, Bell Street and Smith Cove.

Port of Vancouver (WA) CEO Todd Coleman has signed a letter of intent with Moorage 5 Properties and Hickey Family Company for the purchase of approximately 94 acres of heavy industrial property. Described as "strategic property for our future development" by Commission President Jerry Oliver, the acreage is located along the Columbia riverfront between the port-owned Terminal 5 and Columbia Gateway.
