The board of commissioners of the Mississippi State Port Authority at Gulfport has selected Jonathan Daniels to be the port’s new executive director, completing the search to fill a vacancy created by the resignation last summer of Don Allee.

"We are very pleased to be successful in landing a person with the experience and credentials of Jonathan Daniels,” said Commissioner President Jim Simpson."Jonathan has port management, international trade and economic development experience and that is the ideal combination of skill sets we need in a leader.”

Mr. Daniels comes to Gulfport from the Port of Oswego in upstate New York, where he has been executive director since 2007. Previously, he served as the president and chief executive officer of Eastern Maine Development Corporation, overseeing day-to-day operations and development efforts in a six-county economic development district. He is also former director of the office of economic and business development for the city of Bangor, Maine, and managing director of the Port of Greater Baton Rouge. He holds a B.A. in international politics from The Citadel and conducted graduate studies in maritime management at the Maine Maritime Academy.

He will begin work in Gulfport in mid-June.
