An increase in international cargo shipments in 2012 has earned the Port of Toledo its 12th Robert J. Lewis Pacesetter Award from the Saint Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation (SLSDC).

The Pacesetter Award is presented annually to U.S. Great Lakes Seaway ports that have increased their international tonnage shipped through the St. Lawrence Seaway in comparison to the previous year.

Toledo’s public and private marine terminals facilities handled 9.1 million metric tons of cargo during the 2012 navigation season. General cargo alone grew by 32 percent, mainly due to an 88 percent jump in aluminum shipments at Midwest Terminals. Additionally, an increase of more than 36 percent was posted by grain loaded by the The Andersons and ADM for export via the Seaway.
