For more than two decades, NENA’s ENP program has certified excellence in 9-1-1. Those who hold this prestigious designation have shown a commitment to the public safety profession by meeting experience and participation benchmarks and demonstrated an in-depth and comprehensive knowledge of 9-1-1 technology and operations by passing the ENP examination.
If you're ready to sit for the exam this winter, then it's time to apply! The application deadline is Friday, December 20. Learn more here.
NENA has released the final report for its 12th Industry Collaboration Event (ICE 12), which brought together two dozen public safety technology companies from Oct. 21 to Oct. 25, 2024. Hosted at the Illinois Institute of Technology’s Real-Time Communications Lab in Wheaton, Ill., ICE 12 enabled vendors to collaboratively test cutting-edge solutions designed to transition public safety communications from legacy E9-1-1 systems to the advanced, data-rich, IP-based framework of Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG9-1-1).
The event featured rigorous, standards-driven testing of End-to-End PSAP interoperability and cybersecurity, marking a pivotal step towards interoperability based on NENA’s i3 Standard Version 3. A new Mid-Year Validation Event in June 2024, preceding the in-person ICE 12 gathering, allowed participants to retest scenarios from ICE 11, providing valuable insights and ensuring readiness for the main event.

NENA: seeks information from facilities capable of supporting annual testing of NENA’s Next Generation 9-1-1 Industry Collaboration Events (ICE).
The ICE program, plays a pivotal role in the development and implementation of Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG9-1-1) systems. ICE events bring together vendors in an open, supportive, and collaborative environment that fosters a spirit of technical cooperation.
ICE testing events are convened on an annual basis in October. At the events, members of the public safety vendor community gather to test implementations of standards in a safe environment. The test cases are developed by the participants themselves under the auspices of the ICE Planning Committee, which is empaneled by representatives of the very companies that participate in the ICE event.
Every three years the ICE Steering Committee, as the oversight body, opens an RFI to seek information from potential hosts for the event. The ICE Steering Committee’s goals are to identify a capable and secure, conducive environment(s) to perform the inter vendor testing of Next Generation 9-1-1 elements and related standards; and to ensure a venue is committed-to and aware of the requirements to host NENA’s ICE with adequate facilities, resources, personnel, and related technology to achieve a successful event.

As the pressure to transition to NG9-1-1 increases, public safety data maintainers are scrambling to find a successful solution that merges fragmented data from disparate sources and formats into one accurate version. Many data contributors are finding the NGCS system has additional requirements, above NENA standards, and these requirements must be met 100%.
1Spatial’s solutions instantly check completeness and quality of your NG9-1-1 spatial datasets before you deliver it to the State or provision it to your ESInet. With automated data validation, your data is guaranteed to be accepted, reducing reworks and assuring that calls route to the correct PSAP. 1Spatial enables you to provision your data to your CAD, CAD mapping, or other PSAP system even though requirements are typically different than a NGCS system.
1Spatial combines a powerful rules engine, data aggregator, and provisioning capabilities with a self-service cloud platform to support public safety entities in their data readiness needs. The unique rules-based process includes pre-configured criteria aligned to NENA and State-specific rules, enabling users to immediately identify the required data adjustments and accurately pinpoint errors that can be rectified quickly.
