Industry News and Advocacy
The California State Assembly is currently considering a bill that would have major impacts on every 3PL who books drayage at a California port using independent owner-operator port truckers. Under this new bill, the California Division of Labor Standards Enforcement would post on its website the essential information of all port drayage motor carriers who have any unresolved court or Department of Labor judgments related to a broad variety of wage-and-hour concerns.
Last week, Illinois State Rep. Lawrence Walsh, Jr. (D-86), whose district includes parts of Channahon, Elwood, Joliet, Ingalls Park, Preston Heights, and Rockdale, introduced House Bill 4915, which would create a logistics center impact fee. This fee would be an annual fee imposed on the owner of each logistics center located in the State of Illinois. The impact fee will vary depending on how many trucks on average utilize the logistics center.
The Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) landmark final rule on the Sanitary Transportation of Human and Animal Food is approaching its final implementation date for 3PLs on April 6, 2018. Come learn how to build a top-notch sales recruiting program, insure a consistent stream of strong recruits from Universities and Colleges, screen sales candidate resumes, and most importantly interview sales candidates for your 3PL.
As the supply chain becomes increasingly digital, 3PLs must adapt to provide new technology services and platforms to their customers, and to improve their own operational efficiency. New entrants into the logistics marketplace threaten to further pressure small- and medium-sized 3PLs by changing shipper expectations. This webinar will discuss how TIA members can leverage technology to "do more, with less" and ensure their competitiveness in the digital supply chain. There is no charge for this webinar.

The TIA "Measure Up Compensation Report" is an invaluable tool about third-party logistics companies' salaries and compensation, their organization and job descriptions.

From the report, you will obtain industry specific data like:

  • Pay level data from more than 45 key brokerage roles
  • Insight into how different roles are compensated, instead of just how much
  • Observations from Beth Carroll, the Managing Principal at Prosperio Group, an industry thought-leader, on what the survey really means and compensation best practices.

The survey is available at a reduced rate for TIA members here.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s (FMCSA) final rule is requiring the mandatory use of electronic logging devices (ELDs) on all motor carriers who are required to prepare hours-of-service records of duty status. TIA has prepared a detailed card that outlines the implementation dates along with important information on exemptions and penalties. Obtain your ELD Notecard.
