The SC Asphalt Pavement Association 2017 SCAPA Winter Conference was held January 23-24, 2017 at the Marriott Hotel in Columbia, SC. Over 460 people attended the conference which was made up of asphalt producers, suppliers, engineering consultants and staff from several public agencies including SCDOT and the FHWA-SC Division.

SCAPA partnered with the SC Department of Transportation’s (SCDOT) Division of Minority and Small Business Affairs to coordinate an On-the-Job Training (OJT) apprenticeship program for SCDOT-certified Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) firms. In light of SCDOT’s new project delivery plan, the agency felt it necessary to increase the available pool of minority- and women-owned businesses in the area of asphalt inspection.

The South Carolina Asphalt Pavement Association recently honored winners of the 2016 SCAPA Quality Pavement Awards Program during the 2017 SCAPA Winter Conference at the Marriott in Columbia, SC. Seventeen projects were submitted for consideration this year, and 5 projects were selected for an award.

Per NAPA: The green construction market is entering a new era with a focus on product transparency and measuring a product's impact on sustainability. As a result, green construction rating systems, such as LEED v4, Greenroads, and Envision are increasingly structuring credits that encourage the use of products with life-cycle information communicated through Environmental Product Declarations (EPD) or that demonstrate through life-cycle assessment (LCA) a reduced environmental impact.
