SCAPA News and Events
Welcome to the first edition of the SCAPA E-newsletter, Paving the Way. This newsletter is intended to keep our members and industry partners informed of the latest news going on at SCAPA and within the asphalt paving industry in South Carolina and beyond.
The South Carolina Asphalt Pavement Association turns the big 5-0 in 2016. The association was founded in 1966 by ten forward-thinking and responsible asphalt plant mix producers who came together and petitioned O. Frank Thorton, then Secretary of State for South Carolina, for an eleemosynary corporation charter in the name of the South Carolina Asphalt Pavement Association. The charter was issued and the Association was born.
Registration for the 2016 SCAPA Winter Conference is now open! The conference will take place on Monday, February 22 - Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at the Embassy Suites in Columbia, SC.
Scott Insurance was approved by the SCAPA board for associate membership.

Industry News
It was all a dream and now over 94% of roads in the United States are paved with asphalt.
SCAPA participated in the Transportation Research Board (TRB) Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C. this month.
SCAPA was also in attendance for the Southeastern Asphalt User/Producer Group (SEAUPG) Annual Meeting back in November.

The second regular session of the 121st South Carolina General Assembly convened on January 12, 2016.

This past fall, the National Center for Asphalt Technology (NCAT) at Auburn University released a report that will help advance the design of perpetual pavements. These guidelines will be able to help agencies improve the cost-effectiveness of long-life pavements.
