This NCAT Report (21-03) discusses the findings of the Phase VII of the NCAT test track. The seventh cycle began in 2018 with continued focus on pavement preservation and cracking tests in collaboration with MnROAD, as well as additional experiments focused on balanced mix design (BMD) and rejuvenators. The goal of the Preservation Group study is to discretely quantify both life-extending and condition-improving benefits of different preservation treatments applied at various stages of pavement life on low- and high-volume roadways in both southern and northern climates. The field performance data will also aid in the development of specifications and quality assurance guidelines for preservation treatments. The continued goal of the Cracking Group experiment is to validate laboratory cracking tests by correlating lab results with field performance.
Time: October 27, 2021 2:00 - 3:30 PM Eastern Time (US and Canada) Speaker: Greg Renegar, Vice President, Engineering, Astec Industries, Inc. Description: Asphalt plants play a critical role in meeting the stringent material requirements needed to construct asphalt pavements that will provide long service lives and good-performing, cost-effective pavements for the traveling public. Ensuring the plant is operating in calibration is important to producing more consistent and on-specification asphalt mixtures. Additionally, if the plant is not operating within calibration it can lead to increased waste, increased fuel consumption, and other cost inefficiencies. This webinar will focus on the keys to keep the plant operating at peak performance and within calibration.
Date: November 4, 2021 2:00 - 3:30 PM Eastern Time (US and Canada) Speaker: Dr. R. Buzz Powell, Associate Director & Research Professor, National Center for Asphalt Technology (NCAT) Description: Road construction projects often require many activities to achieve the designed facility being constructed in specification and on time. The asphalt pavement construction portion of a project can incorporate different materials, thickness, and other geometric and material specific requirements. With these requirements and the interactions with the other operations and materials on the project, pre-planning is an important step to ensure construction is completed without errors or delays. This webinar will cover some of the important project components contractors should include in the pre-planning activities.
Highlights of this lively, informative webinar include:
• How to increase negotiation confidence and capability • Reappraisal of thinking around behaviors and approach in negotiation • Exploration of the different types of negotiation • Reflection on how negotiation impacts roles • An understanding of power and influence, and how to leverage them to your advantage Calendar of Events
