Message from the Chair
We all came away winners at the Synergy Awards celebration last week at the Current at Chelsea Piers. It was an amazing event! Not only did we applaud the work of 16 of our colleagues who rose to the top with inspiring work during these long COVID months, but we also celebrated the camaraderie, family and passion expressed about being back together in-person after being isolated from each other for so long.
Synergy Awards
Last Friday, over 100 association executives and supporters gathered safely to celebrate at Current in Chelsea Piers. It was NYSAE’s Annual Synergy Awards, which honors outstanding achievement by individuals and organizations. The common theme for this year was continued focus, resilience and innovation. Here’s a few photo highlights from the outstanding event. Please continue to watch for video and photos of the breakfast posted on NYSAE’s social media channels. Organizational Member Spotight

Q: My association has just experienced unplanned turnover at the volunteer leadership level, how do we get back on track? A: Having turmoil at the top can often spell trouble for an association. Reach out to some seasoned veterans, such as past presidents, to see if they can assist in your stabilization efforts. If there are other longstanding or senior members, enlist their help as well. Once you have stabilized the organization, I would recommend a two-pronged strategy to get things moving in the right direction once again: set up a strategic planning session and follow it up with a board training session.
News for New York Associations
The New York City Bar Association mourns the passing of Bettina B. Plevan, who served as City Bar President from 2004-2006. Betsy Plevan, as she was known to friends and colleagues, was the second woman to serve as City Bar President. She had joined the City Bar and served on her first committee — State Courts of Superior Jurisdiction — in 1975, not long after graduating from law school. Under Ms. Plevan’s leadership, the City Bar made significant advances in the areas of diversity and pro bono. This included the founding of the City Bar's Office for Diversity and Inclusion, thought to be the first of its kind among bar associations in the country, and which drew over 100 signatories to its Statement of Diversity Principles in its first year. More details here. Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS (BC/EFA) is The Actors Fund’s staunchest and most generous supporter. Over the last two years, BC/EFA has raised $59 million with $17.4 million distributed to The Actors Fund. Their fundraising success is powered by a generation inspired by The Actors Fund and BC/EFA’s National Grants Program. Congratulations to the entire community, which has responded with record-breaking generosity and to the remarkable leadership of executive director Tom Viola, communications director Lane Beauchamp, finance and administration director Larry Cook, producing director Valerie Lau-Kee Lai and development director Danny Whitman. And thank you to Shubert chairman and CEO Bob Wankel who chairs the BC/EFA Board, and his fellow trustees. Upcoming Events
