The estimated ready mixed concrete produced in April is 32.7 million cubic yards, 7.5% lower than that in May 2024. The estimated production in the U.S. through May is 139 million cubic yards, approximately 6.0% lower than that during the same period in 2024. Ready mixed concrete production is estimated from cement shipments reported by the U.S. Geological Survey. More detail is available here for NRMCA members under Production Statistics. Calling all small to mid size ready mixed concrete producers: get plugged into the Small Producer Council’s latest resources and network during a members only Webinar scheduled for Thursday, September 11, from 11 to 11:30 a.m. Eastern time. This 30-minute session will give members a close look at NRMCA's Performance Benchmarking Survey, offering valuable insights to help enhance your operations. The survey is an annual, confidential survey open to NRMCA Producer members. Traditionally, the results were only shared with those who participated, however starting this year an Executive Summary is now available to all NRMCA members, regardless of participation. Late last month, Jesse Jonas, PE, of the Concrete Council and Illinois Ready Mixed Concrete Association delivered an online presentation titled PROWAG (Public Rights of Way Accessibility Guidelines) Rules for ADA Compliance to more than 450 participants via Zoom. The event was hosted by the Ohio Concrete Association and attended by several member states affiliated with the Great Lakes Cement Promotion Council.
Longtime NRMCA, TMMB member and industry leader Thomas J. Harris died August 23 at 68.
Mr. Harris was born in 1957 in Austin, MN, and moved to Dodge Center, MN, in 1979 where he began a 38-year career at McNeilus Companies. He is survived by his wife, Becky, daughters Katy (Martijn) Bos of Rochester, MN; Lora (Brandon) Smith of Sauk Rapids, MN; Natalie (Colleen Powers) Harris of Minneapolis and five grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Mildred Harris; oldest brother Robert Harris and nephew Dave Harris.

NRMCA congratulates Jim Carreira (shown here at right with NRMCA's Frank Mruk) and his colleagues at Producer member Boston Sand & Gravel for earning the 2025 Concrete Innovation Award for One Milestone, a mixed use building in downtown Boston. The award was presented earlier this month at a Massachusetts Concrete & Aggregates Producers Association meeting held in Framingham, MA.
NRMCA recently participated in the National Association of State Fire Marshals (NASFM) 2025 Annual Symposium from August 10 - 13 in Biloxi, MS. Joel Waters, executive director of the Mississippi Concrete Association, and Shamim Rashid-Sumar, NRMCA senior vice president, codes and standards, exhibited at the event to showcase the resilience of concrete structures in disaster events in keeping with the theme of the event, All Hours, All Hazards: Disasters Never Sleep! Rashid-Sumar (seen here with booth visitors) also presented on Investigating ICF Wall Construction Meeting the Requirements of NFPA 285. NASFM comprises the most senior fire officials in the United States; its primary mission is to protect human life, property and the environment from fire in addition to improving the effectiveness of state fire marshals’ operations. NRMCA has announced the winners of the 2025 NRMCA Environmental Excellence Awards. Now in its 30th year, the program offers NRMCA Producer members national recognition for outstanding contributions to protecting the environment and maintaining sound environmental management practices in their operations. The program salutes companies that have not only met but surpassed governmental compliance requirements and demonstrated a commitment to environmental excellence through plant and staff investment.
The Massachusetts Port Authority invited NRMCA, the Massachusetts Concrete & Aggregates Producers Association (MaCAPA) and the MIT CSHub to an embodied carbon workshop to share concrete industry knowledge. Other participants included representatives from the design consulting and construction communities as well as Massport’s in-house design, construction and sustainability personnel.
