Association & Industry News
Each year NRMCA reviews candidates to serve on its Board of Directors. The Nominating Committee will review submissions during its meeting this fall and determine the slate of Board nominees and state association representatives to be presented to the membership during the Annual Business Meeting next March. The committee encourages nominations from diverse backgrounds to ensure the Board is reflective of the Association’s membership. The basic requirements, in addition to a willingness to be an active and engaged participant, stipulate that each candidate must be committed to promoting NRMCA programs and working in the best interest of its membership and the industry while operating in accordance with NRMCA’s Strategic Plan and Vision 2030 objectives. The Board provides strategic direction, fiduciary oversight and governance of the organization’s operations. Employees of Producer members are eligible to serve. Click here to review the NRMCA Board Job Description. To nominate a candidate, please complete and submit this form to Heather Houck. Self-nominations are accepted. The deadline for nominations is Friday, July 25.

The Safety, Environmental and Operations (SEO) Committee is asking NRMCA members for Carpenter-Mullings Award nominations. Award recipients are singled out for their outstanding lifetime contribution to the ready mixed concrete industry in the field of operations, safety or environmental. Nominees may be ready mixed concrete company employees, manufacturers or suppliers to the industry, or association staff members. They can be active, retired or deceased. Nominations are tendered and reviewed annually; however, awards are only given when deemed appropriate by the SEO Committee. Results will be announced immediately. The award will be presented at the 2026 NRMCA Annual Convention. The nominations deadline is Friday, September 5. NRMCA Senior Director, Local Paving, Greg Halsted gave a half-day training session on July 16 in Denver to construction and warranty team personnel with D.R. Horton, Inc. Halsted discussed the Keys to Successful Concrete Flatwork before about 50 employees of the largest homebuilder by volume in the United States. The training provided information on the materials, mix designs, site work, placing, finishing, curing and jointing of concrete flatwork as well as how to troubleshoot slab defects and work with portland-limestone cement mixes. "Based on the enthusiasm of the audience, the number of questions they asked and the positive interactive discussions, those in attendance learned a great deal about what to look for when it comes to quality concrete flatwork," said Halsted (seen here addressing the audience during his presentation). Tracy Moe, customer care manager for D.R. Horton, noted that the training will ensure that the staff catches issues with concrete flatwork during construction as opposed to when the work is in warranty. Additionally, the information presented will be used to revise the company’s Flatwork Scope of Work document which they will provide to Halsted for comments once completed. Similar training sessions are already being discussed and planned for at other D.R. Horton locations throughout its West Division, Halsted added.
