NRMCA Senior Director, Local Paving, Greg Halsted gave a half-day training session on July 16 in Denver to construction and warranty team personnel with D.R. Horton, Inc. Halsted discussed the Keys to Successful Concrete Flatwork before about 50 employees of the largest homebuilder by volume in the United States. The training provided information on the materials, mix designs, site work, placing, finishing, curing and jointing of concrete flatwork as well as how to troubleshoot slab defects and work with portland-limestone cement mixes.

"Based on the enthusiasm of the audience, the number of questions they asked and the positive interactive discussions, those in attendance learned a great deal about what to look for when it comes to quality concrete flatwork," said Halsted (seen here addressing the audience during his presentation).

Tracy Moe, customer care manager for D.R. Horton, noted that the training will ensure that the staff catches issues with concrete flatwork during construction as opposed to when the work is in warranty. Additionally, the information presented will be used to revise the company’s Flatwork Scope of Work document which they will provide to Halsted for comments once completed. Similar training sessions are already being discussed and planned for at other D.R. Horton locations throughout its West Division, Halsted added.
