For the third year in a row, NENA and Carbyne are hosting a survey to understand the issues that most impact today’s 9-1-1 centers.

As a 9-1-1 professional working on the frontlines of emergency response, your insight and expertise are invaluable to continuously improving emergency communications. You're invited to participate in this survey about the challenges and opportunities you face.

Click here to take the survey; it should take approximately 10-15 minutes. As a token of our appreciation for your time and effort, you will receive a $10 gift card upon completion of the survey.

Your responses will be kept confidential and only be used in the aggregate to analyze the results. After the survey closes, a report of the findings will be shared with you.

NENA's NG9-1-1 Implementation Coordination Event (ICE) series is a long-running program and has been held since 2009. An event "by the vendors, for the vendors," NENA sponsors the event to bring together NG91-1 product and service vendors in an open, supportive, collaborative environment. At ICE, vendors build interoperability test cases and test their products (production or prototype) against each other's products using test case document(s) based on existing and evolving standards.

ICE 13 testing scenarios will be focused on CLDXF Conveyance, PCA Certificate Management, NG-PSAP Calls with Callback, Conferencing Capabilities, CAD-to-CAD EIDO and DTLS with SRTP/SRTCP.

This year, ICE events will include the following:

  • Virtual Mid-Year Event – June 9 - 13, 2025
  • Validation Testing – September 22 - 26, 2025
  • ICE 13 Event – October 20 - 24, 2025

All vendors are welcome! An ICE 13 Planning Committee has been formed, and vendors such as NG9-1-1 equipment systems and services, logging, and CAD are encouraged to join.

Washington Briefing

In a historic first, the Senate Commerce Committee has voted unanimously to advance its version of the 911 SAVES Act (S.725 – the Enhancing First Response Act) out of committee. It now waits for a full vote on the Senate floor.

Now, we need you to help us ensure that this bill becomes law! Click here to contact your Senators and Representative and urge them to bring this bill for a full vote in the Senate, and for the House to follow suit.

"Every day, 9-1-1 professionals are the first to respond to emergencies, providing vital, lifesaving services with extraordinary skill and dedication," said NENA CEO Brian Fontes. "Their work is no less critical than that of police, fire, or EMS personnel. Reclassifying Public Safety Telecommunicators as Protective Service Occupations is a long-overdue correction that recognizes their skills and their indispensable role in public safety."

Volunteers Wanted

NENA is seeking volunteers to participate as a Working Group member for the PSAP Logistics Committee Document Review Working Group. The first task of the PSAPLOGIS-Document Review WG will be to assess the NENA Mutual Aid Standard/Model Recommendation to determine if this standard should be reaffirmed or revised and to support the document to publication.

The working group is seeking operational and technical subject matter experts in the User, Producer, and General Interest categories, as defined in Section 3 Document Development Process of the NENA Development Operational Procedures.

Ideally, work group membership will include participants with:

  • PSAP and dispatch operations management experience
  • Experience designing Public Safety technology
  • Experience designing and managing IP networks
  • PSAP Administrators familiar with inter-agency communications
  • Experience writing technical requirements

Calls are being held every other Tuesday from 12:00PM - 1:00PM Eastern beginning May 13, 2025.

The ability to communicate information on basic medical conditions of a person related to an Incident is often desirable or critical to providing the appropriate response. Condition types like those included in ICD-10-CM—the International Classification of Diseases—are far too detailed to be useful for emergency dispatch. The Working Group’s responsibility is to determine the appropriate condition types that will be useful without the list being so lengthy that it is impractical to use. The scope of the work is intended to be limited primarily to condition types, their descriptions, and related guidance regarding their use in NG9-1-1. The deliverable is intended to be an ANSI-candidate document.

The working group is seeking operational and technical subject matter experts in the User, Producer, and General Interest categories, as defined in Section 3 Document Development Process of the NENA Development Operational Procedures.

Ideally, work group membership will include participants with:

  • PSAP and dispatch operations experience in handling, dispatching, or responding to Incidents where a medical condition of a person associated with the Incident may be relevant to the response provided.
  • Emergency medical response experience to assist in determining how detailed condition types should be for practical use.
  • Deployment and support experience of 9-1-1 industry products and services.
  • Experience writing technical requirements.

Meetings are to be held on Wednesday from 11:30AM – 1:00PM Eastern.
