Were You There?

IMEX America is the global conference for incentive travel, meetings and events. With powerful educational sessions tailored to attendee learning preferences, it’s an ideal opportunity to get the latest industry knowledge.

Their highlight video captures how resilient our industry is and how it's coming back together stronger than ever!

Some of our MPI Toronto chapter members attended for the first time. Zaman Ishaad, shares his experience highlights:

Receptions/Evening Events:
SITE NITE: When I attended the 2019 SITE Young Leaders Conference, I bought a ticket to SITE NITE and decided to stay in my hotel room instead. This year, I decided to attend and had a blast! It was a great way to cap the conference with entertainment, a fun photo booth with confetti and concert.

MPI Rendezvous: It’s been too long since our industry has been together at a large trade show like IMEX. Everyone came to party! A great balance between networking and dancing, fellow attendees were able to enjoy the festivities and support the MPI Foundation. It was a memorable night for all!

On Oct. 20 and 21, many of our members gathered at the Canadian Meetings and Events Expo. After what felt like never-ending lockdowns, CMEX brought event professionals back together, safely in person.

The last PD session of the year was a resounding success.

Nausheen Saumtally, corporate speaker, trainer and coach and certified DISC behavioral analysis consultant, taught us about the four different personality types and how assessing and determining the personality type of yourself and those around you can help improve your interpersonal relationships by using specific tools and communication strategies when interacting.

Dr. Agnes Wainman, psychologist, speaker and author, shared with us how to assess and manage our expectations of ourselves and our experiences in order to persevere and enjoy our personal journeys.

The PD session was wrapped up by Nicole Manes, certified sound therapy practitioner and co-founder of Sound Response Wellness, who outlined the benefits of Sound-Based Stress Reduction and performed a virtual sound bath that is available interactively and as group workshops. This allowed the group to end the day feeling enlightened and stress-free.

Events Industry Council launches CMP fellows designation
The Events Industry Council (EIC), the global voice of the business events industry on advocacy, research, professional recognition and standards, has launched its new CMP Fellows Programme, one of a number of new initiatives designed to enhance the association’s highly regarded CMP programme both in terms of the depth of its offer as well as its global reach.

The CMP Fellows Programme will recognise and reward CMPs and/or Emeritus who continue to make a significant investment toward the betterment of the events industry and the community of people working within it. Fellowship is open to those with at least 10 years tenure as a CMP or Emeritus who can provide robust evidence of engagement and experience within the events industry.

A new class of fellows will be inducted annually with benefits including access to exclusive networking opportunities, peer-to-peer collaborations and opportunities at EIC and other industry events.

As part of the EIC’s commitment to supporting education and advancement in the industry, the organisation’s CMP Governance Commission has created the CMP One-time Reinstatement Programme. The initiative provides eligible meeting professionals an opportunity to reinstate expired certification through continuing education without having to retake the CMP certification exam, meaning that they can still benefit from the industry's most recognised "stamp of approval."

For more information on qualification criteria, benefits of CMP fellows designation and the submission process, visit The deadline for submissions is Jan. 31, 2022.

How Are You Feeling?

With the cold season upon us, if you’re anything like me then all you want to do is skip the gym or any form of physical movement to be snuggled up by a cozy fireplace with your favourite book. But then you feel guilty because you KNOW moving your body will not only help you concentrate better while working but is important for your health as well. Check out my new favourite app, MOVR — five-minute movements to help you stretch, take a tech break, shake off stress or even warm up before actually heading to the gym.
