MCAM IN ACTION

With a strong new executive and continued support of Student Chapter alumni, the MCAM Student Chapter looks like it will continue to gain momentum. Facing capping membership, the Chapter will be creating an application process for future membership. Engaging our future engineers is critical to building on the strengths of the industry.

MCAM is proud to announce the second year of our Hamper Program. We will be purchasing, preparing, and delivering hampers, including food and gifts, for entire families. This is a wonderful time of year during which businesses in our industry can come together to make dreams come true for families in need. MCAM will be collecting sponsorships to host our annual Hamper Building Day. Our goal is provide hampers for more than 25 local families who can’t afford to do so on their own.

MCAM staff and members visited historic Fort Gibraltar to celebrate past pioneers of MCAM and the recipients of the Bill Atkinson Scholarship. As a pioneer and funder of the award, Mr. Atkinson was in attendance to present the scholarships in person.  

Bill Atkison is founder of ABCO Supply and Service. He celebrated is 101st birthday in 2018.

MCAM members are invited to submit a charity for consideration for the remainder of the 2017-2022 MCAM strategic planning period. The deadline for nominations is January 10, 2019.

A common issue faced by contractors in the construction industry is how to approach a fixed-price bid when there is some uncertainty of costs.This issue is all the more prevalent given the trade relationship between Canada and the United States of America, which has resulted in tariffs on products such as steel and aluminum.
