Former GSAE member Richard "Barry" McElveen, 70, passed away Tuesday, September 16, 2014. Barry served on the Board of Directors of South Eastern Fabrication Association for 14 years, and became the Executive Director in 2001. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Georgia Drycleaning Council and was past president of the Savannah Area Fabricare Association. He was appointed by Lynn Westmoreland to the Compliance Advisory Panel of the Georgia Small Business Assistance Program. His memberships included the Georgia Chamber of Commerce, Savannah Chamber of Commerce, the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce, Georgia Society of Association Executives, the American Society of Association Executives, Past Chairman of the Coastal Bryan Development Authority, Past Vice Chairman of the Bryan County Planning and Zoning and a member of the Bryan County Republican Party where he served as Treasurer. Hayward C. Cox, Jr., three time president for Meeting Professionals International Georgia Chapter, passed away September 11, 2014. Hayward served as an inspiration to countless meeting professionals and paved the way to excellence in the meetings and events industry. Nineteen years ago, GaMPI honored Hayward by creating a Phoenix Award bearing his name. The Hayward C. Cox, Jr., CMP Continuing Quality Award is awarded annually to a long-standing member who has committed at least five years of service to GaMPI and contributed significantly to the Chapter. It was with great sadness that we learned of the passing of Tami Estep last month. The Barnsley Resort family has lost a dear friend and valued colleague. Tami fought a brave battle against cancer. You may view her obituary here.

 Independent Insurance Agents of North Carolina (IIANC) is excited to announce the selection of the association's new Chief Executive Officer. Aubie W. Knight, CIC, AAI, CRM will join the IIANC staff on January 1, 2015. "During a very exhaustive search for our next CEO it became apparent that Aubie Knight was the clear choice to lead us forward," commented Bobby Salmon, IIANC Chairman of the Board.Knight comes to IIANC with over 18 years of Big "I" association experience and 21 years as a licensed insurance agent. He currently serves as Chief Executive Officer of the Independent Insurance Agents of Georgia (IIAG), having held the top leadership position since 2010. During his 18 year tenure with IIAG, Knight has gained senior management experience in all aspects of the association's operations as well as having served on numerous IIABA committees and task forces at the national level. Prior to joining the IIAG staff in 1996, Knight worked as a producer for Mutual of Omaha Companies where he was named Rookie of the Year in 1992. |

(AGC Georgia), announced they are the recipient of the prestigious 2014 Large Chapter of the Year Award presented by The Associated General Contractors of America (AGC of America).  Carol Hall, Association and Government Sales Manager, Augusta Marriott at the Convention Center, was named GaMPI's Shining Star for September 2014. Carol has worked on securing items for The Gathering Silent Auction for
many years. In addition to her work on the silent auction,
Carol has been participating in GaMPI's Community Service outreach with
the Atlanta Community Food Bank for the past 3 years. She has also
enjoyed volunteering as a table host at our Educational Programs and really
loves connecting people together. She is truly a brilliant GaMPI Shining

 Robin Lane, CAE, senior association director with Meeting Expectations, and her husband, Brandon, welcomed their first child over the summer. Daniel Brandon Lane was born on July 10, 2014, weighing 6 pounds, 15 ounces, and was 20 inches long. Both mom and baby are doing great!

 Loren Einstein, Senior Sales Manager, The Ritz-Carlton Lodge, Reynolds Plantation, and her husband welcomed their first child this spring. Chloe Rae Einstein was born on April 24, 2014, weighing 6 pounds and 6 ounces. Both mother and daughter and doing great and Loren has returned from maternity leave. |

The Foundry Park Inn has undergone extensive renovations to become Graduate Athens. The guest rooms are fully renovated to reflect Athens’ sense of community, culture, and eclecticism. The lobby is relocating to the old Foundry Building to capture the character of the exposed brick and wood beams, and a new bistro style café and coffee bar will be located in the common area. The banquet spaces have been freshly painted, and beautiful custom made carpet from Italy has just been installed. New and upgraded lighting fixtures are set to be installed later this month, and new custom draperies will finish off the project to complete the look.

Join us for a mock CAE exam using the Sample Questions at the back of ASAE's official CAE Study Guide (bring your own copy of your guide; GSAE will not provide copies on site but will provide an answer sheet on which to record your responses) on Thursday, November 6, 10 am - 1 pm. We will spend the first 2 hours in a mock test environment, score the exam, then discuss your questions over lunch at SAIS.

The Georgia Society of Association Executives is proud to partner with Institute for Organization Management, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundations’ professional development program for non-profit executives, and offer two $500 partial tuition scholarships to attend Winter Institute in 2015. The two scholarships, available to any of our members, will be awarded to students attending Institute for the first time to assist with enrollment fees and cannot be combined with any other Institute scholarships.
For over 90 years, Institute has educated association and chamber leaders across the country through its national program, highly rated curriculum and high caliber instructors. Thousands of executives have attended Institute sites across the country to strengthen their management skills, learn industry best practices, and gain a broad national perspective from peers. Institute has helped them build stronger organizations, become strong business advocates and better serve their members. In addition, you can earn up to 96 credit hours toward your CAE certification as Institute’s curriculum is directly tied to the CAE’s body of knowledge. Upon completion of the Institute program, graduates receive the IOM recognition which allows them to use the letters "IOM" in public mention and professional correspondence. The IOM recognition signifies the completion of 96 hours of course instruction in nonprofit management and commitment to the industry.
