As part of the CPA’s sponsorship of HGTV Canada’s Rock Solid Builds, a gallery with rotating sliders on the benefits of propane will be featured on the HGTV Canada website starting today – February 24 and running until March 9, 2022.
While the CPA welcomes the B.C. government’s commitment to a low-carbon future in the provincial budget delivered on February 22, 2022, by Finance Minister Selina Robinson, there is no mention of propane initiatives or incentives, nor recognition of the importance of vital economic contributions made by B.C.’s natural resources, including propane production.
The CPA salutes the recent announcement by the government of Alberta of $4.5 million for municipalities and Indigenous communities to assess adaptation measures and to create climate resilience plans.
Ontario’s independent Financial Accountability Office released a report on government energy subsidy programs on February 16, 2022. Almost $40 billion in energy subsidies, primarily earmarked for the electricity sector, are promised over the next 20 years.
The CPA was an active participant in Ontario’s 2022 budget development process throughout January and February. The CPA was one of 20 participants whose views on government fiscal and economic priorities for the coming year were solicited and considered.
Held virtually on February 24 and 25, 2022, the Rural Ontario Municipalities Association conference provided highlights and findings from its action plan on rural growth and resiliency in a ‘post covid world’. The CPA will utilize this important data for industry benefit in its government and stakeholder outreach efforts.
On January 25, 2022, the Ontario government announced the creation of new Crown agency Skilled Trades Ontario to “improve trades training and simplify services, promote and market the trades, develop the latest training and curriculum standards, and provide a streamlined user-friendly experience for tradespeople”. The agency lists 144 registered trades in the province that included truck drivers but not gas fitters. 
On February 11, 2022 the CPA published a commentary by CPA Interim President and CEO Allan Murphy to its website and social media channels in response to Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s statements about the blockade of the Ambassador Bridge. It was aslo published on February 17 in the Letter to the Editor section in The Hill Times, a widely read publication throughout the federal government.
Ben Lobb, MP for Huron-Bruce in southern Ontario, presented Bill C-234 entitled An Act to amend the Greenhouse Gas Pollution Pricing Act, in the House of Commons on February 7, 2022.
