California Trucking Day provides a unique opportunity for trucking professionals to tell their personal stories of how legislative and policy decisions affect their businesses, employees and families. On May 3, 2017, more than 9,500 commercial motor vehicles were inspected for an unannounced brake safety enforcement event, Brake Safety Day. Enforcement personnel throughout North America conducted inspections on large trucks and buses to identify out-of-adjustment brakes, and brake-system and antilock braking system (ABS) violations as part of the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s (CVSA) Operation Airbrake Program.

CTA has received a few inquiries from some member carriers requesting further clarification on how HM securement laws are being enforced by the CHP. In response to the inquiries and in an effort to provide its members with the best information, CTA has reached out to the California Highway Patrol’s (CHP) Golden Gate Division and has requested that an additional HM securement information session be presented to interested members.

Caltrans is working nights and weekends through August to repave the Pioneer Bridge. The Pioneer Bridge is the main connector for Sacramento and Yolo counties on U.S. Highway 50 over the Sacramento River. Traffic lanes, and on- and off-ramps are affected from 7 PM to 6 AM Monday through Friday and throughout the weekends through the end of August.
