Although registration for CMSA's 23rd Annual Conference & Expo will not launch until late January, conference scam companies are targeting past attendees and exhibitors as well as confirmed 2013 exhibitors, posing as the "official lodging coordinator" for the conference.

In order to provide more time for the CMSA community to attend online sessions from CMSA's 2012 Annual Conference, CMSA has decided to extend the availability of Extended Conference packages from December 31, 2012 to July 31, 2013.

How Is Technology Changing the Practice of Care Management?

TCS Healthcare Technologies (TCS), the Case Management of Society of America (CMSA), and ABQAURP are hosting a two-part complimentary webinar that will highlight the major findings from the 2012 Health Information Technology Survey. 
The first webinar was presented in early December; the second webinar is scheduled for February 5, 2013.  Both webinars will showcase major findings of the new survey and review some key trend lines over the last six years.

Administration Proposes Guidance for Medicaid, Health Insurance Marketplaces

Because of the Affordable Care Act, millions of Americans will be newly eligible to receive quality, affordable health care through Medicaid and the new health insurance marketplaces (also known as the Exchanges) in 2014.  Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius on Jan. 14 released a proposed rule that promotes consistent policies and processes for eligibility notices and appeals in Medicaid, the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP), and Exchanges and give states more flexibility when operating their Medicaid programs.

Winning designs of printed health records to help patients better understand and use their electronic health records (EHRs) were announced on Jan. 15 by Farzad Mostashari, M.D., the national coordinator for health information technology. The designs, created through a HHS Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) challenge contest, all met the goal of making EHRs valuable to patients and their family members.

Caregiver resources are available on These resources provide insights about choosing a drug plan, selecting a hospital, finding local support and care options, and more. And be sure to remind caregivers that many Medicare preventive services are available to their loved one with no co-pay, like an annual wellness visit, immunizations, and some cancer screenings. It’s just another way you can help caregivers.
