President's Report

Greetings MDRAO members,

Another summer is already over, and we are getting ready to get back to work here at MDRAO. We have a few projects lined up as usual.

First, I want to say I am excited to be your resident and look forward to working with the board of directors, chapter executives and every member, to grow our association.

Also, the provincial board would like to thank everyone who attended out last conference in April 2022. What a success this was again. We were not sure that the conference would happen live when we started planning it because we were still dealing with Covid-19 precautions. We decided to take a chance and move forward with planning a live conference, and we were well rewarded with a great success.

We want to thank all the vendors that participated at the conference as well as our main sponsors, Steris, 3M and ASP. Without you, we could not have done it!

I personally had a lot of fun and learned a lot, as usual. Speaking of conference, another exiting conference is coming up in October 2022: the CAMDR conference, which will be held in Laval QC October 13th to 16th. The MDRAO board of directors will be attending this conference. We like to encourage other associations that strive to make the medical device reprocessing profession known and improve the working conditions of this wonderful profession. We hope to see some of you there. We will have a booth at the vendors display; come and see us in large numbers!

We are still working hard on the translation of the MDRAO online course and recertification exam. We are hoping to have this done shortly. We are also working hard at developing all the MDRAO chapters by bringing in new members. Therefore, we will be holding our next board meeting in North Bay. We are hoping to be able to meet MDRD technicians in that area and hopefully mingle with then at a social event.

October 9th to 15th is MDR week. Please take some time to celebrate the awesome profession you have chosen. Every day you work tirelessly to ensure the patients we serve have clean and sterile instruments on time for their surgery. You are essential to the good functioning of every hospital!

Happy Thanksgiving,

Nathalie Legault, RN, BScN, CMDRT

I hope you all had a great summer and some time to take a break from the daily demands. Taking a break and reflecting is important for our own well-being. We sometimes forget that we need to create a working brain and a life brain. This means we should be keeping work at work and enjoy our time at home.

COVID-19 has adjusted all our lives at work and at home. You are not alone if you are having difficulty adjusting to the new normal; do not hesitate to reach out to friends, colleagues or support systems provided by your workplace or communities.

Hello Fellow MDRAO members! I hope you all had an amazing summer and smooth transition back to school for those with little ones.

The Sigma board has been busy planning our first ‘Day Conference,’ which will be held at the Double Tree convention centre in London, Ontario. Sigma will be sending out information to all the chapters soon in hopes of seeing lots of familiar faces as well as new ones!

We hope you all have a great Thanksgiving, and please stay tuned on how register for our day conference!

3M™ Attest™ Auto-reader technology incubates and delivers BI results for both steam and vapourized hydrogen peroxide sterilization in one reader. The 24-minute Dual System works with Any-Well technology, so both Attest™ BIs 1491 or 1492V (for steam) and 1295 (for vapourized hydrogen peroxide sterilization [VH2O2]) can be incubated in any well of the reader at the same time.

To my fellow colleagues, life as a medical device reprocessing technician is tough.

COVID-19
Let’s talk about COVID-19, remember the lockdown, lack of PPE, wearing face masks for how many hours, washing and cleaning of soiled instruments used for COVID patients, mandatory vaccinations, adjusting our normal lives to live the COVID way?

Medical Device Reprocessing Week is a great time for health care facilities to recognize and show their appreciation for the important work of MDR professionals.
