The Primary Objectives of Teleclass Education are to provide the best possible infection prevention and control information, to the widest possible audience, with the fewest barriers to access. By strict definition, a teleclass is a live seminar to which people listen and participate over the telephone, or access through on-line recording. The minimum technical requirement to participate in Teleclass Education is access to a telephone and access to email, or a computer with Internet access and speakers. Teleclasses take place over the telephone so you can join wherever there is a phone. The presenter's slides and handout notes, and the number of the Bridge Line and PIN code are emailed to all registrants at least 48 hours in advance of the teleclass so access to email is necessary.

CHAPTER REPORT
A meeting of the Gamma Chapter Executive was held on October 7, 2011, to discuss the upcoming year and what we could do to encourage Chapter members to get involved. Since some of the executive could not attend the conference, those members who did attend gave an update on what occurred and the changes made to the constitution. The Gamma Chapter course in February 2011/2012 is in Ottawa at the General Campus, and there are over 70 people enrolled in the course.

The Delta Chapter had another busy year. We met in October at Brantford General where we celebrated CS week, and hosted two presentations on Laparoscopic equipment, and testing. We celebrated Christmas by attending a social evening at Kelsey’s in Hamilton, where we discussed our up and coming elections.

I would like to thank all the people who attend our meetings and contribute to the chapter. A chapter is only as good as its members. We have been fortunate in having the highest membership for the last three years and this is because we have an active chapter and an excellent executive. I want to thank Nancy, Michelle, Tammy and Nicole for all their work as this executive works as a team and this works well.

ARTICLES RELATED TO STERILIZATION AND DECONTAMINATION
This article is written to provide one with options if the reprocessing of reusable medical devices cannot be performed effectively and safely. As one may be aware, the reprocessing of reusable medical devices is complex. It requires a quality system and, if not performed to Canadian Standards, can place citizens at risk of obtaining disease or infection. Over the past five years, this issue has been publicized through Canadian media highlighting the fact that thousands of Canadians are being put at risk due to the lack of robust reprocessing practices, with many acquiring diseases including HIV and Hepatitis.

All aspects of patient care warrant focused attention to drive quality assurance, process improvement and, above all, positive outcomes. Nowhere is that degree of due diligence more crucial than in the sterile processing department – where the challenges of a perpetually harried pace and ever-evolving instrumentation are often exacerbated by limited resources and split-second customer demands from the Operating Room and other health care customers.
