Don't Miss Feature

On behalf of the AACS Board of Directors we are announcing today a change in leadership on the AACS Board. Don Yearwood has been scheduled for hip replacement surgery and we wish him the best for a safe surgery and for a speedy recovery. Don recognizes that this will take his full attention to rehabilitate and therefore has resigned as the Board President for AACS.

While we will all miss Don’s leadership, we can all appreciate that health and family must come first. I know that we are all grateful to Don for his long history of leadership and engagement with the AACS Board and as our President. I also know that we all appreciate how difficult this decision was for him, but that it is truly one made in the best interest of the Association and the members.

From Dayton to LA-BCL Mentorship Inspires Belinda Crooks

Earlier this fall, Belinda Crooks, a student at Carousel Beauty College in Dayton, Ohio and fall 2015 BCL Mentorship Competition winner, joined internationally recognized hairstylist and educator Nick Berardi at his LA studio for a day of model prep. Belinda was inspired to enter the competition by her teacher Lisa Nettleingham. Belinda says the mentorship was valuable, "because I got to peek into the future. As artists we have value and there is a whole life out there to experience. This experience puts in my head the idea that maybe I can accomplish something great!"

Crisis Communications Tips for Higher Ed

When the University of Missouri president, Tim Wolfe, resigned last month (November 2015), the former Board of Curators chairman told The New York Times that the school did not do the "three things in crisis management that you have to do: be abundantly honest, you have to work quickly and you have to control the message." That’s true, but there are several other areas where leadership on campuses across the country also need to excel, so that they are continually operating in a proactive mode. Seven Steps to Make the Unexpected Work for You

If change is this constant, natural process, why do people resist it so vehemently? Many times it is because they don’t think they are up to the task of handling the change. Human beings have changed and adapted for generations, and all have the inherent skills to respond to new circumstances. Think of the older people for whom social media did not even exist  in their early lives who are now ardent users of it. Change is going to happen. It’s a fact of life. Understanding your responses and making good choices to manage the change might make the difference between your chance to capitalize on an opportunity or spend the time resisting and miss your chance. Integrating Technology into Education
