The Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) reports record container and ro/ro volumes and cargo tonnage increases across all business sectors for the fiscal year that ended June 30, 2015. Port of Houston Authority terminals continue operating at a record pace, handling nearly 20 million tons of cargo during first half 2015 with double double-digit gains by loaded containers and imported steel. The Port of Hueneme year end tally for FY 2015 shows cargo at an all-time high of 1,574,903 metric tons, a 9.5 percent jump from FY 2014. Mexico’s port system experienced substantial gains in container, auto and cruise traffic from January through June, according to the federal port agency, Coordinación General de Puertos y Marina Mercante. Cargo containers are moving at a record pace through the Port of New York and New Jersey with first half 2015 up 13.4 percent from a year ago to 3,093,789 TEUs.

Flagler Global Logistics broke ground July 27 on the new Titusville Logistics Center, marking the start of construction of Port Canaveral’s first multimodal inland port facility. Due for completion early next year, the 246,240-square-foot facility will support the port’s expanding cargo and container terminals. A Memorandum of Agreement establishing the Appalachian Regional Port in Chatsworth (GA) was signed July 28 by Gov. Nathan Deal, the Georgia Ports Authority, Murray County and CSX Transportation. Operated by the GPA, the regional port will funnel traffic to the Port of Savannah from a service area that includes North Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee and parts of Kentucky. The provincial government of New Brunswick will invest up to C$68.3 million over seven years towards the expansion and modernization of the Westside terminals in the Port of Saint John.
