The Port of Halifax received 134 vessel calls with 217,305 passengers during the cruise season that began May 6 and ended November 15, 2014. The Port of New Orleans was named "Best North American Homeport" by Cruise Critic as part of its 2014 U.S. Editors’ Picks. Vision of the Seas has joined Brilliance of the Seas as the second of two Royal Caribbean International (RCI) cruise vessels that will sail from Port Tampa Bay during the 2014-2015 cruise season.

MSC Judith, the largest container vessel to ever call the Port of Philadelphia, docked at Packer Avenue Marine Terminal on November 17. The ship, which arrived in Philadelphia from northern Europe, has a length overall of 325 meters/1,065.6 feet, beam of 42.8 meters/140.4 feet, maximum draft of 14.5 meters 47.6 feet, deadweight of 105,017 metric tons and a container carrying capacity of 8,089 TEUs.

Kevin Beardsley became chief financial officer of the Duluth Seaway Port Authority, effective December 2. Board members appointments and reappointments had been announced for the Nanaimo, St. John’s and Trois-Rivières port authorities in Canada. Maersk veteran Beth Frisher is the new maritime business development manager at the Port of Oakland.

Transportation Technology Associates
The Port of Oakland reports container cargo imports this October posted their largest increase in six months, jumping 9.2 percent from a year ago to 73,124 TEUs. Port officials said cargo diversions are adding hundreds of additional import containers weekly to Oakland volumes.

The Government Finance Officers (GFOA) has awarded a certificate of achievement for excellence in financial reporting to the Alabama State Port Authority for its 2013 comprehensive annual financial report. The Port of Seattle’s 2015 budget projects significant growth at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, stable revenue in the seaport division, and continuing recovery in the real estate business.
