The board of directors of the Jacksonville Port Authority on September 25 unanimously voted to hire longtime JAXPORT executive Eric Green as chief executive officer. The Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) Board elected Worcester County Sheriff Lew Evangelidis chair at its meeting on September 20. John Wolfe, CEO of The Northwest Seaport Alliance, received the 2017 Connie Award presented by the Containerization & Intermodal Institute in Long Beach (CA) on September 19.

Emergency Response: New York/New Jersey, Port Everglades
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is deploying a 70-member team of emergency personnel and support equipment to assist Puerto Rico’s recovery following massive devastation caused by Hurricane Maria.

Broward County's Port Everglades is waiving its tariff charges for ocean shipping lines transporting humanitarian relief supplies to Caribbean counties impacted by hurricanes Irma and Maria.
 
Dredging: Tampa
Port Tampa Bay has approved a public-private partnership agreement with four other entities to divvy up who will pay for a $60 million widening and extension of the Big Bend Channel.
 
Port Traffic Metrics: Baltimore
 
   
Fiscal 2017 was a banner year for containers and general cargo traffic at the Port of Baltimore’s public marine terminals.

 
Security/Portland (OR)
Oregon’s Port of Portland will receive $1.25 million from the federal Port Security Grant Program to upgrade marine terminal security systems.

The U.S. Army 841st Transportation Battalion, Joint Base Charleston (SC), recently moved helicopters and other equipment bound for a combat mission overseas through JAXPORT’s Blount Island Marine Terminal.
 
Recreation: Coos Bay
The Oregon International Port of Coos Bay (OIPCB) has received a $12,750 grant from Travel Oregon to replace picnic tables in the Charleston Marina RV Park. Travel Oregon - officially the Oregon Travel Commission  awarded a total of $400,000 for local tourism projects throughout the state. The port was one of 29 grant recipients.
 
Real Estate Development/Oakland
The Oakland Athletics baseball team will relocate its headquarters to Jack London Square as part of a plan to build a new downtown ball park. The square is a key component of the Port of Oakland’s commercial real estate portfolio.
