What's Going On

Wednesday, September 11, 2013
- Moose Mountain, Saskatchewan

Take highway 9 north from Carlye or highway 9 / 48 south into the gorgeous Moose Mountain Provincial Park. This jewel of a park has all the ammenites for summer fun; a water park, camping, a lake and lodge. Before the park gates lies the club house for Kenosee Golf Course, a 18-hole beauty with five holes with vistas over the mountain.

The first Kenosee WRLA golf tournament was organized in 1995 by two board members, Ron Paul and Greg McNamara of Beaver Lumber. Don Horvath from D & D Lumbermart made the teams and was the official score keeper. The winning foursome that year was Gino Allegro - Owens Corning, Mike Baudais - Owens Corning, Doug Erickson - North American Lumber and Brian Minish - Northern Specialties. The tournament has kept it’s momentum with Don Horvath taking the organizational reigns from Ron Paul after his retirement.

Once you've had a taste of this late summer tournament it will become an annual pilgrimage! If you don’t want to drive after the tourney book your stay at the Kenosee Inn for a quiet night in the park. Contact Don Horvath for golf registration and golf sponsorship. Forms below, See you in September!

Here are some tips for creating an effective endcap:

Fill it up: Endcaps should look full. As you sell through items, restock or move in new items.
Density matters: Plan at least one endcap for every 400 square feet of retail sales floor.
Promote projects: While you can use an endcap to merchandise one or more products, you can also create a project theme. Include a product with one or two complementary or related items to fill out the display centered around a specific project.

Keep it balanced: Studies suggest single-item endcaps make the most powerful impact while driving large sales increases. However, if you don’t want to invest in the large inventory levels it takes for a massive product display on every endcap, take the balanced approach.

Include POP video players: Endcaps with TV monitors with a looping informational video about a featured product can build customers’ interest about a product as well as give them confidence about using it. You’re also more likely to get a customer to stop and look at the endcap if there’s a video playing than if there’s just a stagnant sign.

Let employees be creative: When creating a display, be creative by using unusual products, a lot of color or vignettes: anything that will catch customers’ attention. If you have employees who need an outlet for their creative spirits, show them a few products you’d like to promote and let them use their imaginations to come up with creative endcaps.

St. Thomas, ON, June 21, 2013 – The Tough as Nails (TAN) Contractor Tradeshow, which stopped in seven cities across Canada this year, offered contractors, renovators, builders and trades people the opportunity to learn about new products and network with fellow professionals. In addition, attendees from all seven shows were entered for a chance to win a 2013 Toyota Tundra.

Upon learning that he was the grand prize winner, McWhirter jumped for joy, "I’m in disbelief that I won. I have always loved attending the Home Hardware Building Centre Tough as Nails Contractor Show. As a local contractor it is a great environment to connect with suppliers to learn about new products and useful ideas. I certainly didn’t expect to win a new Toyota Tundra pickup truck for attending an event that also benefits my work."

Representatives from Home Hardware and Toyota were on-hand to congratulate Jason on his win, including Bruce White, Vice-President, Merchandise & Marketing, Lumber & Building Materials, Home Hardware Stores Limited and Greg Dyson, Area Manager, Toyota Canada Inc.

"On behalf of the Dealer-Owners of close to 1,100 Home Hardware stores across Canada, I would like to congratulate Jason on being the recipient of a 2013 Toyota Tundra vehicle and thank all our local contractors for the dedicated work they do in the community," said Bruce White, Vice-President, Merchandise & Marketing - Lumber & Building Materials, Home Hardware Stores Limited. "We strive to continue to be a trusted source for contractors in our communities by providing superior service and quality products at competitive prices. The Tough as Nails Contractor Shows allow us to reinforce the many ways in which we work to be the building centre location of choice for contractors."

Home Hardware unveiled the winner at a Contractor Appreciation BBQ hosted by Geerlinks Home Hardware Building Centre and Home Furniture Store on June 21.
