MSHA will continue enforcement activities, including mandatory 2/4 inspections. They will not be performing compliance assistance work, Part 100 conferences, H&S training programs, or the more administrative-leaning work. The escalation report call line will continue to operate. If you need to call local MSHA offices, there should be someone there to answer, but it may take a while to get email responses, depending on the issue.
According to the MSHA Staunton Field Office Supervisor, during the Federal Government shutdown, all inspections are continuing, and inspectors are performing their responsibilities as normal. Inspectors and the Field Office contact numbers are operational should you need to report an accident. MSHA offices are closed during the shutdown and email auto-replies are being sent.
OSHA will be conducting investigations into imminent danger situations, fatalities, and safety and health complaints, but will not be doing programmed inspections.
