Beginning on July 16, VAA and VTCA will host each of the six VA Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) Regional Offices and the Central Office for workshops to educate DEQ staff about the asphalt and aggregate industries. The workshops will focus on the importance of the industries to their communities and the products and services they provide. The industries will go over the steps and efforts that are employed to meet and exceed the regulatory requirements.
Asphalt and aggregates are closely tied together as products and, in many cases, collocated on or very near the same parcels. VAA and VTCA believe this not only provides educational opportunities but also an opportunity to develop relationships with our regulatory partners.
DEQ, their regional offices in more populous areas, often onboard new staff, including permit writers and inspectors. These workshops will allow new staff members to experience onsite visits and tours of quarries and asphalt production facilities.
Attendees range from 15 to 30 DEQ staff members for each tour. Stay tuned to future Blue Top issues for updates on these tours and photos.
