Last week, VTCA members Luck Stone and Shirley Contracting Company teamed up to host US House Rep. Jennifer Wexton (D-VA) on a quarry tour and visit to the long-awaited Route 7 Corridor Improvement Project in Northern Virginia, where Shirley Contracting is working on multi-modal transportation improvements to a vital commuting corridor.  Wexton voted for the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) and sits on the House Appropriations Committee, which is responsible for authorizing annual transportation spending levels.

The IIJA is the catalyst behind thousands of new infrastructure projects across the country.  The site visits are designed to show lawmakers how these investments are making a difference, helping ensure future commitments to robust federal surface transportation projects.

Educating elected representatives on the importance of aggregate production and building safe sustainable transportation corridors enables VTCA members continued success.  VDOT’s Northern Virginia District Engineer, John Lynch, and VTCA’s Emerging Leader from Shirley Contracting, John Alexander, accompanied the tour providing background information on the project.  Rep. Wexton is up for re-election this November.
