This summer, VTCA Aggregate Members will host four quarry tours for Virginia science teachers. The events are part of the Rockin’ PD Days designed for Virginia Association of Science Teachers (VAST) to obtain professional development credits while gaining professional earth science learning and resources.
Each of the tours will be a full day of learning for the teachers. Along with the quarry tours, geology-based hikes, museum visits, and other local earth science activities are planned for the teachers.
The teachers will also receive the ever-popular VTCA Rock Kits and be able to collect aggregate samples from each of the quarry tour hosts. Additionally, teachers will learn about the geology of each facility and the uses of the products mined there.
The Virginia Chapter of the Friends of Mineralogy will be assisting VTCA with hosting the tours.
