NAAIA Hosts 12th Annual National Conference

The National African-American Insurance Association (NAAIA) recently held its 12th annual National Conference, themed "The Road Ahead," in Dallas, TX. Featuring 21 corporate sponsors, including ING, Marsh, MetLife Auto & Home and Travelers, the event was attended by more than 300 people representing insurance corporations, insurance agents and brokers, exhibitors and local dignitaries.

Conference highlights:

  • A breakfast keynote address by Mike Geeslin, Texas Commissioner of Insurance;
  • A panel discussion with senior industry executives on "The Road Ahead – A View from the Top";
  • An awards banquet during which 17 African American insurance professionals from the Dallas area were recognized for their 25+ years of service, dedication and leadership; and
  • The announcement of the new NAAIA National Board of Directors which includes Executive Committee members – Chairman, Don Davis of Travelers; Vice Chairman, Rudy Loney of MetLife Auto & Home; Treasurer, Wayne Spooner of CNA; immediate past Chairman, Ron Allen (retired); NAAIA founder, Jerald Tillman of J.L. Tillman Insurance Agency; Lee Bethel of Comprehensive Benefit Services, Inc.; LeRoy Bostic of Lewis & Thompson Agency, Inc.; Charles Briggs of Marsh; Daneen Carroll of ACORD; Mona Carter of NCCI; Charles Hilston of CBG, Inc.; and Carolyn Trader of TMI Consulting Group.

"I am delighted by the participation, attendee engagement and success of our 12th annual National Conference," said Jerald Tillman, NAAIA founder. "We are staying true to our mission, and I am both energized by and honored to work with the talented members of our new national board."

NAAIA is a professional association within the insurance industry whose predominantly African-American membership represents leadership and staff roles from insurance agency and broker organizations and insurance companies. Its strategic goals are to attract, develop, and retain talented African-Americans to support the growth and profitability of the multi-trillion dollar U.S. insurance industry; promote the diverse private and public sector employment opportunities available in this industry that employs more than 2 million people; champion the marketplace value, contributions, and growth of minority-owned insurance agents and brokers; and facilitate the greater access to and education of multi-cultural industry consumers with predominant emphasis on African Americans.
